| We have a long and storied History! |
| Chalo's Casa Reynoso restaurant was established
in 1969 in Globe, Arizona by Chalo Reynoso and Juanita Reynoso, husband
and wife. Globe is located in southeastern Arizona. It is a mining
town that was founded in 1870 by silver miners. In 1907 it became
the City of Globe. Chalo Reynoso's mother, Salustia Rodrigues came
to this area from Marfa, Texas (hometown of the movie GIANT) in 1926,
with her mother after her father's death. Her mother owned and operated
a cooking and cleaning service for the local miners. This is how Salustia
met and married Pedro Reynoso. They had nine children together. The
fifth child born was christened Gonzalo Rodrizuez Reynoso (nickname
in Spanish is Chalo). In 1946, Salustia's older sister opened a restaurant
and offered her sister a job. A few years later Salustia's sister
moved to the Phoenix area and left the restaurant to Salustia and
Pedro. They leased the restaurant until 1949 and then decided to relocate.
They purchased a downtown building in 1949 and started doing business.
Their children contributed in any way they could. Chalo Reynoso helped
with the family business until he enlisted in the Marines in 1953.
He was honorably discharged and returned to Globe in 1956 where he
met and married Juanita Barela. In 1957 they had their first child:
Gonzalo Anthony Reynoso. Juanita continued to follow in the Reynoso
family tradition by assisting in Chalo's mother's restaurant. In the
summer of 1969, Chalo and Jaunita decided to purchase their own business
and named it Chalo's Restaurant. They ran the business for 25 years
and decided to hand over the day to day management over to their eldest
son Gonzalo Reynoso Jr. They also updated the name to include the
second and third generation of Reynoso's now in the restaurant business:
Chalo's Casa Reynoso. As you can see by the menu, there is a great
variety of excellent traditional and non-traditional Mexican food
dishes. They family recipe dates back to the late forties and with
such original and flavorful dishes, Chalo's Casa Reynoso has truly
become "Famous for Everything." |
